ABOUT OUR FUZZY PROJECT
We are excited to add Fuzzy Lops to our Rabbitry. When Little Creek Rabbitry was selling out of Fuzzies, some very nice Pointed White and PW- carrying American Fuzzy Lops became available, and since we love the PW color and some of our Holland Lops carry the fuzzy gene, it seemed like a natural fit for us.
While American Fuzzy Lops (AFLs) did originate from Holland Lops with the fuzzy gene, and are still very similar type and size, they are recorded as seperate breeds today. For this reason- and to make it more informative on our pedigrees-- Himadri Hollands will continue with "Himadri" prefix for our 'plain' Holland Lops, and will be using the prefix "Lomaza" (Sanskrit for "very furry") for our Fuzzy Hollands and Fuzzy Lops.
Fuzzy Hollands (and Fuzzy Lops with both AFLs and Fuzzy Hollands in their pedigree) can be shown as AFLs and earn awards at ARBA shows. They should not be registered as AFLs until their most recent Holland Lop ancestor is past the first 3 generations in their pedigree-- in other words, beyond their great-great grandparents.
Similarly, if Holland Lops have AFL ancestry in their 3 generation pedigree they can be used for showing and breeding as Holland Lops, but should not be registered as Holland Lops. Note: Fuzzy Hollands from Holland x Holland breeding are not AFLs and can be considered Holland Lops in a Holland Lop pedigree.
We believe in breeding for quality and striving to meet the ideal as written in the Standard of Perfection no matter the breed, so we may be crossing back and forth in some of our lines to acheive these goals with our color projects in both breeds. Please ask about ancestry of any of our rabbits if this is a concern when you look at our stock-- we will be happy to explain exactly what is "back there".
