The Himalayans...... Mountains Worthy of Climbing...... Color Worthy of Perfecting

Himadri Hollands is owned by myself, Laura Lyon, and my daughter, who is a youth breeder/exhibitor.Himadri Hollands is an American Rabbit Breeders Association (ARBA) registered rabbitry #D550 in Howell, Michigan. I am an open member and my daughter is a youth member of ARBA, HLRSC, (Holland Lop Rabbit Specialty Club) and MSRBA (Michigan State Rabbit Breeders Association).

We are committed to breeding and raising high quality rabbits according to the published Holland Lop breed standard. We are actively showing at most Michigan ARBA shows, as well as occasionally in surrounding states. Our current focus in breeding is to develop show quality Hollands, specifically in one of the most uncommon colors.

I was actively involved in breeding and showing several breeds of rabbits in the Intermountain West in the 1990s, but retired from the hobby when our family moved back to Michigan in 1999. Himadri Hollands was created at the end of 2010 after a ten year long hiatus from raising and showing rabbits. We decided to concentrate on one breed-- the Holland Lop-- and to focus on breeding and improving the pointed white color- also called Himalayan, or “Himi”. Using quality breeding stock from different breeders and bloodlines chosen for their individual and genetic strengths, we are blending and breeding forward to establish our own Himadri line.

The name “Himadri” is a Sanskrit word which literally means “Land of the Snows” or “ Mountain of Snows”. The Himalaya Mountains are home to the highest mountain peaks in the world, and "Himadri" is the highest range in the Himalaya Mountains, also called the Backbone of the Himalayas . They are an imposing geographic feature as well as the home of many holy and mythical places in Nepal, India, and Tibet. We chose this word for our rabbitry because of our desire to work with “Himalayan” colored Hollands, and because the massive yet mystical snow covered Himalaya mountains reminds us of the almost mythical ideal Himalayan coloring on perfectly built Holland Lop. "Himadri" also speaks to the high and lofty goals we want to keep foremost in our minds as we strive to improve our herd and the Holland Lop breed.

All of the pedigreed Holland Lops bred by Himadri Hollands are named with the Himadri prefix, followed by a unique name from the  Nepali, Sanskrit, or Tibetan languages, chosen for its individual meaning and significance.
